We bring together numerical mathematics, scientific and high performance computing, and life sciences

With a strong focus on problems arising in brain science, we develop new and highly detailed models of signaling in brain cells and large networks. By developing new approaches in numerical mathematics and scientific computing, we can describe processes in the brain in a three-dimensional setting. This is fairly new to the field of theory-based neuroscience. The resulting problems that need to be solved are very large. This poses a challenge to high-performance computing, which is a further pillar of our group’s work.
